d.a.gordon dart grew up in a community rich in the visual arts; New Hope, Pennsylvania. Strong influences of her surroundings and the art she was exposed to is evident in her work. The primitive paintings of Joseph Pickett and Edward Hicks largely impacted her emerging style. Early in her career she painting was defined as Contemporary American Primitive. The strong, simplistic character of primitive art continues to dominate her style as it has developed and expanded dimensionally over 30 some years. Ms. Dart started exhibiting her work in 1973 and her drawings began appearing in The New Yorker Magazine in 1975. Her paintings have been exhibited nationally in galleries, juried shows, competitions and solo exhibits. Her illustrations have appeared on magazine covers, in articles, books, calendars, pamphlets and advertisements for major periodicals and publishers.
