Artist Statement: "Life is funny, and equally mysterious. As an illustrator, I depict the life’s weirdness with visual stories. My work uses cartoon imagery, cultural references, and humorous details to intrigue viewers. I use traditional and digital, 2-D and 3-D mediums for a range of storytelling possibilities. "

My influences include ‘60s “comix”, MAD Magazine, Japanese prints, and Mexican folk art. The history of modern illustration inspires me to create fresh, new Frankenstein-esque combinations of classic styles.

Van Jazmin is a cartoonist, writer, and entrepreneur. A Ringling College student and community activist, Van mixes with diverse crowds in the pursuit of all things creative in Sarasota, FL. He has been a key force in Zigzag Magazine, 529 Clothesline Gallery, and Third Eye Projections.
