Hammel graduated from Ringling College of Art and Design in Sarasota and has been an art instructor for over twenty years. He has dedicated himself to working with various organizations including underserved and at-risk teens. Working as a studio artist since 1990, Hammel has gained recognition for his wildlife pottery and has been collected by Olga Hishorn of the Hirshorn Museum at the Smithsonian.
